Mount Maunganui from the harbour

What a fantastic day... took the Atomix for a spin and decided to bring my camera and take some photos. Nice swells out the entrance.. always fun riding over these! and flat calm in the harbour.

Fishing from the Atomix 420

It's been a long time since I took my camera out taking photos... My blog is turning into fish photos.. oh well...maybe this year I get back to my camera. Weather has been pretty rough with up to 3 mtr swells. The Atomix handles so well in rough seas!
Been getting a few KingFish each time I head out-- have a good spot about 5 and a half miles out which this year is holding KingFish from 70cm to 95cm.. and will get between 5 and 10 each morning on Jigs. Man what a work out!!  This year only on Pink jigs.. very strange.
Sounder broke a few weeks ago but the new one is great showing the schools of bait fish well to jig into.
Had a couple of good battles with sharks with a massive Bronze Whaler jumping right out of the water very close to the boat! The Marco Sharks look great swimming around the boat.. the big Bronze Whalers are a bit scary when your in a small boat lol

Mount Maunganui Beach

Great winter weather... all week at work the sea is calm and no wind... then the weekend comes along and it all changes! Oh well, this weekend gave me a chance to spend time chopping/thinning my fruit trees and was able to take out Sarah-Jane for a hot choc in town. Also went for a walk at the Mount Beach and a nice relaxing swim at the Mount Hot Pools.

Whakatane

Was a really nice day on Saturday but still a little bit windy at home to go out fishing so ended up going for a drive to Whakatane. Stopped off at Thorton Beach for a spin at the river mouth but nothing there... needed to be full tide. Still nice to walk around the beach and have lunch in Whakatane.

McLaren Falls Tauranga

Has been ages since I took my camera with me for a walk. Went to McLaren Falls today for a walk round the Lake edge and park.  Cool wind blowing with  plenty of leaves now falling off the trees. Lots of toadstools growing on the ground as well.

hhhmmmmm  a close up view!

Bronze Whaler Sharks in Tauranga Reef

Not the best video in the world! even upside down.. LOL but a little clip of 2 sharks that hung around my little boat this weekend. I have to admit was getting scary as they rushed around on the surface -- shame as I didn't get any footage of that...way too busy looking and bringing in my Kingfish.. then a couple of minutes later one crashed in the side of the boat!
I was bringing up another rat Kingfish and the sharks started to move incredibly fast/worked up trying to eat it, rushing under and around the boat in a bit of a frenzy... Next thing both sharks went for the Kingfish-- I pulled it quickly out of the way into the boat and one shark rose up - crashed into the side of the boat rocking/tipping the boat on a angle almost threw me and my brother off balance and over!  One of my fishing rods went overboard-- but was able to get it back...  FUN but SCARY

A Little Marco eating the last bit of Kingfish it stole

I ended up catching it a little bit later -- thankfully the hooks pulled at the side of the boat.

It’s the end of February

Today went for a walk at McLaren Falls and took a few photos…
A baby swan hitching a ride – a little Dragon Fly.
While I have no photos… on Saturday was out fishing with Richard my Brother– caught 5 Kingfish and then had a couple of massive sharks around the boat for a while.. one ended up crashing into the side of the boat as it was trying to eat my Kingfish!  Almost threw us out in the water!  A Little bit scary!

Yea it's Christmas!

It's been a long year and with close to 4 weeks off I'm looking forward to the Christmas break and getting some fishing in. The weather is improving.. I got out fishing with my brother Dave yesterday at my spot. Lost a massive Kingfish!.. I'm still gutted.. the hooks pulled!. We managed to find a big school of fish on the sounder and drifted over it with Jigs landing 2 kingfish each but only 600 to 750cm in size.. but still good fun. Looking forward to some Trout Fishing at Lake Taupo.
